49½ milesThis section passes through the remnants of Whittlewood Forest, the
ancient hunting wood that used to cover much of this area. The woods are criss-crossed by forest paths making a pleasant detour. Look out particularly for the spectacular bluebell display in Whistley Wood in late spring.
Nearby is the international motor racing circuit at Silverstone, home of the F1 British Grand Prix. The northern section has gentle hills, pretty villages and a small detour takes you to the National Trust property of Canons Ashby with its interesting Tudor house and gardens.
Old drovers' roads criss-cross the region including the old Banbury Lane linking Banbury to Northampton, one of the oldest roads in Britain.
